Rajasthan Royals (RR)‘ Director of Cricket and head coach Kumar Sangakkara has revealed their biggest strength in the ongoing fifteenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Notably, at the mega-auction held in February this year, the Royals went with quite a few smart choices to make a pretty balanced side for the 2022 IPL edition.
Sangakkara recently reflected on the bowling department of RR and said it is a real booster for a team that has been struggling in the past, especially with their overseas recruits. Many experts, in fact, had a similar opinion after the IPL 2022 auction as they got to see an incredible bowling lineup of the Royals. No wonder the ‘Men in Pink’ dominated in their opening fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
With the likes of Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna, Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal, the Royals have one of the best attacks this season, and it was evident against SRH when the Sanju Samson-led side defeated the 2016 champions by 61 runs.
“It’s always nice to have such high quality in your attack. To have them available throughout is another great plus,” said Sangakkara in a virtual media interaction on the eve of their match against Mumbai Indians (MI).
“Everyone brings knowledge and experience into the mix. Players change around in terms of auctions at various times. It’s good to have their experience on the side,” he added.
Not only bowling but the middle-order batting has also been a big concern for the Jaipur-based franchise, but Sangakkara reckoned that players are aware of their roles and can support each other well.
“There are always times when anyone can struggle in a long season. At various times, the key is to have the ability around to support that and to have players understand that. It’s the natural way of cricket. Unfortunately, we can’t have a good day everyday… We try and very hard. Good days and bad days are part and parcel of the game,” Sangakkara added further.
