Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) played out a thriller on Monday night at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. The 38th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 went down to the wire, where PBKS managed to register a victory by 11 runs.
Chasing the massive target of 188, the Super Kings were in a spot of bother after losing four wickets for just 89 runs in 12.3 overs. Just when PBKS thought to push the domination further, veteran CSK batter Ambati Rayudu ruined their plans by playing an unbelievable knock which almost sealed the deal for the four-time champions.
Rayudu took Punjab bowlers to the cleaners, scoring 79 from just 39 deliveries with the help of seven fours and six maximums before becoming the victim of experienced campaigner Kagiso Rabada in the 18th over.
Unfortunately for Rayudu, his brilliant efforts with the willow went in vain as the Super Kings fell 11 runs short of the total to record their sixth loss in the fifteenth season. Nonetheless, Rayudu’s unreal batting display earned massive praises on social media, and former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer lauded the batter in his own unique style.
Jaffer, who is largely famous for his amusing and rib-tickling responses on social media, pointed out a connection between PBKS all-rounder Rishi Dhawan and Rayudu’s heroics. Notably, Dhawan bowled with a face shield during the match because of an injury he had sustained in the Ranji Trophy campaign this year.
Jaffer saw the opportunity and recalled the famous episode of Rayudu when the CSK star had fired some shots after being left out of India’s ODI World Cup 2019 squad in favour of Vijay Shankar due to the latter’s ‘three-dimensional abilities’.
“Rayudu batting even more aggressively tonight. Rishi Dhawan’s glasses may have reminded him of something #PBKSvCSK #IPL2022,” tweeted Jaffer.
