Frustrations were quite visible in the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp after losing yet another contest to remain winless in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) handed MI their sixth defeat in a row at Brabourne cricket stadium on Saturday.
Lucknow skipper KL Rahul starred with the willow, hitting a brilliant century to help his team post 199/4 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Mumbai could only reach 181/9, losing the game by 18 runs.
Be it batting, bowling and fielding, the Rohit Sharma-led side disappointed fans in all the three departments. One of the major cause of concern was another failure of their opening batter Ishan Kishan.
Ishan, who was bought for a massive amount of INR 15.25 crore in the IPL 2022 mega auctions held earlier this year, couldn’t rise up to the expectations yet again as he scored just 13 runs off 17 balls before being cleaned up by LSG all-rounder Marcus Stoinis.
After getting out in an unfortunate way – dragging the ball back onto his stumps – Ishan was expectedly gutted as he displayed his frustration while walking back towards the MI dugout. As the explosive opener reached the end of the ground, he smashed the boundary cushions, with his bat showing how annoyed he was with himself.
The video of the same has now gone viral on social media. Notably, the act of Ishan is likely to fall under the breach of the code of conduct, and he might get fined for his actions as well.

After the game, MI skipper Rohit Sharma reflected on his side’s poor performance, taking full responsibility for the way things panned out in the game against Lucknow.
“Hard to point out one particular situation, when you are chasing a total, we need big partnerships, something we failed to do today. There’s no particular reason for it, we try and put the team before the individual. They bat quite deep, and it is important to hold your key bowlers towards the back end. We always try and keep Bumrah for the back end, and it didn’t seem to work out. He bowled pretty well, but the others just need to pull up their socks a little bit,” said Rohit at the post-match presentation.
