Twitter reactions: KKR’s Pat Cummins and Venkatesh Iyer hand MI their 3rd defeat at IPL 2022

KKR beat MI by 5 wickets

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) thrashed Mumbai Indians (MI) by five wickets in the 14th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at MCA Stadium in Pune on Wednesday.

Chasing 162, KKR lost two wickets early when the scoreboard read 35 in the powerplay. Then, Venkatesh Iyer and Sam Billings partnered to get the Knight Riders out of trouble. The duo added 32 runs for the third wicket before Murugan Ashwin removed Billings (17) to break the partnership. Soon, Ashwin got rid of Nitish Rana (8) and reduced KKR to 83/4 in 11.4 overs.

KKR fans had all their hopes on Andre Russell, who started well with one six and a four to give some sign of worry to the Mumbai camp. However, Tymal Mills came to rescue for his side as he dismissed the dangerous Russell for 11 runs in the 14th over.

Meanwhile, Venkatesh kept his end alive and played the anchor innings. The left-handed batter reached to his half-century in the 15th over to keep the hopes alive for KKR. Though, the real damage was provided by Pat Cummins, who smashed MI bowlers from the word go to shift the momentum completely in favour of the Knight Riders.

Cummins played a blistering unbeaten knock of 56 from just 15 deliveries with the help of 10 boundaries, including 6 humungous sixes, to help KKR finish the proceedings in just 16 overs. Similarly, Venkatesh stayed undefeated at 50 off 41 balls.

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav returned in grand style smashing a scintillating half-century to help Mumbai post a competitive total on the board. Surya, along with Tilak Varma, steadied the innings after MI lost three wickets for just 55 in 11 overs.

The pair stitched a crucial 83-run partnership for the fourth wicket to help their side shift the momentum. While Surya fell for a well-made 52 off 36, including seven boundaries, Tilak remained unbeaten at 38 from 27 deliveries. Kieron Pollard chipped in with late heroics of 5-ball 22 as Mumbai reached 161/4 in 20 overs.
