Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opening batsman Ajinkya Rahane has left the Indian Premier League (IPL) bio-bubble after being ruled out of the the remaining tournament due to hamstring injury. The Grade 3 tear will also keep Rahane out of contention from selection in India’s squad for the tour of England in June-July.
The 33-year-old injured himself during KKR’s 54-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune. According to Cricbuzz, Rahane will soon report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and undergo rehabilitation for more than four weeks.
Meanwhile, the All India Selection committee is expected to pick two different squads for the upcoming home series against South Africa and the England tour. Several senior players including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will be rested for the South Africa T20Is and instead board the flight to England where they are to play one Test, three T20Is and as many ODIs. .
For the series against South Africa, the selectors can give chance to newcomers like Tilak Varma, Arshdeep Singh, Rahul Tripathi and Umran Malik among others.
