IPL 2022: MI pacer Tymal Mills ruled out of the remaining tournament; replacement announced

Tymal Mills ruled out of IPL 2022

Already struggling Mumbai Indians (MI) faced a major setback to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign as their overseas pace bowler Tymal Mills has been ruled out of the rest of the current season due to an ankle injury.

Mills played five matches for Mumbai this year, picking up six wickets at an economy of 11.17. He last played on April 16 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), where he conceded 54 runs from three overs. Overall, the left-armer has featured in 11 IPL matches, taking 11 scalps with 3/35 being his best.

The Rohit Sharma-led MI have signed South African Tristan Stubbs as a replacement for Mills. The 21-year-old middle-order batter recently debuted for the national South African A Squad against Zimbabwe. He will join MI for a price of INR 20 lakh (approx USD 26,000).

Tristan impressed one and all in the domestic season, scoring 293 runs at a brilliant average of 48.83 and a strike rate of 183.12 for Warriors in the CSA Challenge T20 competition.

“Mumbai Indians have signed South African Tristan Stubbs as a replacement for Tymal Mills, who has sustained an injury and has been ruled out for the rest of the Tata IPL,” read a statement released by MI.

“The 21-year-old, talented middle-order batter, recently debuted for the national South African A Squad against Zimbabwe. Tristan has had a very promising domestic season and played an important role for his team in the recently concluded T20 domestic league. Tristan will join the MI squad for the rest of the season,” the statement added.
