Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh in the second and final Test by 10 wickets to take the two-match series 1-0 at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Friday.
Fast bowler Asitha Fernando and the senior batting duo of Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal were the chief architects behind Sri Lanka’s big win.
Replying to Bangladesh’s first innings score of 365, Sri Lanka took command by posting 506. Mathews and Chandimal shined with the bat, smashing their respective centuries. While Mathews remained unbeaten on 145, the Chandimal hit 124.
Lankan bowlers then tightened their grip on the match on Thursday when they reduced the hosts to 23-4, with the Islanders eyeing an innings victory on the final day. But gritty half-centuries from Liton Das (52) and Shakib Al Hasan (58) prevented that.
However, Bangladesh were eventually bundled out for 169, to give the visitors only 29 runs to win the contest, which the Dimuth Karunaratne-led side did in three overs. Fernando, who claimed a 4-fer in the first innings, continued from where he left and went on to claim six wickets in the second innings, making it a match haul of 10 wickets.
Bangladesh 365 & 169 (Shakib 58, Litton 52; Fernando 6/51, Rajitha 2/40) lost to Sri Lanka 506 & 29-0 by 10 wickets.

A superb performance by Asitha Fernando to claim Player of the Match 💥
This is only the second time a Sri Lanka pacer has taken 10 wickets in an away Test.#BANvSL | #WTC23 pic.twitter.com/xRGUNwAFZI

Really pleased for Asitha Fernando. 10 wickets in the SLvsBang Test Match. A graduate of the 2016 ICC U19 CWC. Always hoped he’d go and do excellent things with that lovely action especially with Lakmal now gone, 🙌🙌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻.

It's great to see the seniors standing up in the batting department and performing magnificently, but finds of the tour are undoubtedly Asitha Fernando and Kasun Rajitha. Sri Lanka has unearthed gems.

Asitha Fernando! First time in 20 years that a Sri Lanka fast bowler has taken 10 wickets in a Test match. He is the only second SL pacer, after Chaminda Vaas, to take a 10-wicket match haul in Test cricket. #BDvSL

Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 10 wickets to win the Test series 1-0. Special effort from fast bowlers Asitha Fernando & Kasun Rajitha. pic.twitter.com/6GRe1WYsfE

Asitha Fernando’s 10 for 144 is only behind Chaminda Vaas’ 10 for 90 in Napier in 1994. They are only SL seamers to have taken match bags of 10 wickets. Incidentally both did it in their fifth Test. Unlike Vaas, Asitha is from small village called Katuneriya in Puttlam district. pic.twitter.com/MyjrEPBESd

That was the best I've seen from Asitha Fernando. Well bowled.#BANvSL

A lesser known fact on Asitha Fernando is that he is only 24 years and is only the second Sri Lankan fast bowler after Chaminda Vaas to pick a match bag of 10 wickets. Sri Lanka need 29 runs to win #BANvSL pic.twitter.com/eFbdTTIg7r
