In Match 46 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Sunday.
Chasing the massive target of 203 runs, the Sunrisers started well, with Abhishek Sharma and Kane Williamson adding 58 runs for the opening wicket. As the SRH was looking further to cruise through, the Super Kings came back in the game with Mukesh Choudhary getting two back-to-back wickets in the form of Abhishek (39) and Rahul Tripathi (0).
Soon, CSK got rid of Aiden Markram (17) and skipper Williamson (47) to reduce SRH to 126/4 in 14.2 overs. Nicholas Pooran did try to take the game as deep as possible, but he kept running out of partners.
Eventually, Pooran smashed a half-century and stayed unbeaten at 64 runs, but it wasn’t enough as SRH fell 13 runs short and only managed to reach 189/6 in 20 overs.
Earlier, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway blow away Sunrisers with a scintillating batting display. The pair took SRH bowlers to the cleaners forming a dominating 182-run opening stand to record the highest partnership for CSK in the history of the cash-rich league.
Ruturaj roared back in form in grand style as he hammered six fours and as many sixes during his 57-ball stay at the crease. However, the right-handed batter was unlucky to miss out on what could be a tremendous century by a solitary run.
Rututaj was caught by Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 99 runs on the second last ball of the 18th over bowled by T Natarajan. Conway, on the other hand, remained unbeaten at 85 runs from 55 deliveries with the help of 8 fours and 4 sixes to take the Super Kings to 202/2 in their allotted 20 overs.
Highest Partnerships for CSK in IPL:
- 182 – Ruturaj Gaikwad & Devon Conway (1st Wkt v SRH) 2022*
- 181* – Shane Watson & Faf du Plessis (1st Wkt v PBKS) 2020

Hard luck @Ruutu1331, you missed out on a well-deserved hundred. But boy that was some knock. Very responsible innings, especially the way you took off pressure from Conway. Surely, more to come.#TATAIPL 2022 pic.twitter.com/vaZ2tidXwG
