India batter Cheteshwar Pujara is enjoying a sensational run in the ongoing County Championships Division Two 2022 for Sussex. The 34-year-old has already smashed two centuries and as many double-centuries in seven innings for the side so far.
In Sussex’s game against Middlesex, Pujara yet again showed his super class. On Day 3 of the match, he squared off against Pakistan star Shaheen Shah Afridi and took him on during the second innings. Sussex got off to a poor start losing their opening two wickets within seven deliveries before Pujara arrived in the middle.
The right-hander batter didn’t shy away from taking an aggressive approach against Shaheen, hitting him for a spectacular six. It all happened in the third over when the left-arm pacer dragged back his length and bowled a short-pitched delivery. Pujara counter-attacked with an uppercut as the ball flew way over the third-man region for a six.

Walking in at 6/2 with an overall lead of 40, Pujara steadied the ship and formed a 138-run stand with Tom Alsop (66) before Tom Clark (26*) dropped anchor at the other end for the Indian star. The right-handed batter smashed 16 fours and two sixes and batted at a strike rate of more than 80, finishing the third day unbeaten on 125 to give Sussex a lead of 270.
Earlier, Sussex bundled out Middlesex for 358 after posting 392 in their first innings. Ollie Robinson was the star with the ball for Tom Haines-led Sussex. The right-armer picked up a brilliant five-wicket haul while conceding 66 runs in 24 overs.
