AUS vs ENG – WATCH: Glenn Maxwell’s jaw-dropping effort to save a certain boundary in 3rd T20I

Glenn Maxwell saves a certain boundary in 3rd T20I

Australia survived a possible whitewash as the third and final T20I against England was abandoned due to consistent rain interruptions during the contest at Manuka Oval in Canberra on Friday. The game was reduced to 12 overs per side, where the tourists managed to post 112/2 after being asked to bat first. In response, the hosts lost three wickets in 3.5 overs at 30 before the rain arrived again, forcing match officials to abandon the game

While the rain spoiled the party, there were quite a few moments in the match which grabbed everyone’s attention. One such incident was a mind-boggling fielding effort from Glenn Maxwell in the penultimate over of England’s innings.

It all happened on the fifth delivery of the 11th over, bowled by pacer Josh Hazlewood when Jos Buttler timed the ball perfectly towards the cover region. Hazlewood delivered full and wide of off-stump; Buttler reached out and scythed the drive through extra cover. For a moment, it looked like the white leather would easily beat Maxwell, who was sprinting towards the ball. But the Victorian slid at the right time and did splendidly well to pluck it with his right hand, stopping a certain boundary.

Here is the video:

“It was, there was quite a bit of rain yesterday and today as well, and we would have been happier with a full game. Credit to England, they outplayed us in all three games, but I thought the fielding was better on a slightly greasy surface tonight. We will take a couple of days off, recharge, enjoy each other’s company and start our preparations for the World Cup,” said Australia skipper Aaron Finch after the match.
