Cricket South Africa (CSA), on Wednesday, announced the replacement of Dwaine Pretorius for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022, scheduled to start on October 16 in Australia. Notably, Pretorius was ruled out of the global showpiece event after he had fractured his left thumb in the third T20I against India.
Left-arm pacer Marco Jansen has now been called up to replace injured Pretorius in South Africa’s 15-member squad for T20 World Cup. In place of Jansen, who was initially part of the travelling reserves, fast bowler Lizaad Williams has been included. Jansen had recently replaced Pretorius for the ODI series against India where they lost to hosts 2-1.
Earlier this year in June, Jansen made his T20I debut for the Proteas tour of India. He took the wicket of Shreyas Iyer then and conceded 38 runs off his four overs. That was the only T20I the left-armer has played so far. He has also appeared in seven Tests and three ODIs for South Africa.
There is no denial that South Africa will miss Pretorius but with Jansen’s inclusion, their pace attack gets more lethal having already a star studded fast bowling unit with the likes of Wayne Parnell, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi.
The rainbow nation will start their campaign on October 24 against one of the qualifying sides from the first round.
