India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to back injury. Bumrah missed the recently concluded T20I series against South Africa due to the same injury.
The right-arm seamer had returned ahead of the T20Is against Australia after being sidelined for over two months since suffering back spasms at the end of the England tour in July. He rested and rehabilitated at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru before returning to the Indian camp for the Australia series.
Skipper Rohit Sharma admitted during the first game that Bumrah was being slowly eased back in as he didn’t feature in that context. He played the next two – on September 23 and 25 – before suffering a back injury again on the eve of the South Africa series.
After being ruled out for the 2022 T20 World Cup, Bumrah took to Twitter and wrote: “I am gutted that I won’t be a part of the T20 World Cup this time, but thankful for the wishes, care and support I’ve received from my loved ones. As I recover, I’ll be cheering on the team through their campaign in Australia.”
