Pakistan Women‘s cricket team, on Friday, scripted history as they defeated India in the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup 2022 to record their first win over the arch-rivals in six years.
Batting first at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Pakistan, who faced a shocking defeat by Thailand on Thursday, posted a competitive total on the board thanks to batting heroics from Nida Dar.
After losing three wickets for 33, Dar and skipper Bismah Maroof took charge to bail Pakistan out. The duo went on to form a vital partnership of 76 runs for the fourth wicket to rescue their team.
Dar smashed an unbeaten 56 off 37 balls, while Maroof scored 32 from 35 deliveries as Pakistan reached 137/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Deepti Sharma picked up three wickets for 27 in her quota of 4 overs.
In response, India, the toppers in the points table, batted poorly and were bundled out for 124 in 19.4 overs, to lose their first-ever contest in the ongoing multi-team event.
The Women in Blue never really got the momentum and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Richa Ghosh did play a cameo (26 off 13) to bring India back into the game, but her dismissal in the penultimate over ended all hopes as the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side fell 13 runs short.
Dar, who sizzled with the bat, displayed her top all-round skills and picked up two of the most crucial wickets – Jemimah Rodrigues (2) and Harmanpreet (12) – for 23 in her quota of 4 overs. Nashra Sandhu bagged a three-wicket haul while giving away 30 in 4 overs.

They've done it! Pakistan have beaten India for just the 3rd time in T20s. Huge result for a team going into the match as heavy outsiders. Superb all round performance from Nida Dar & great determination from the death bowlers to hold their nerve. A memorable win 👏👏👏 #INDvPAK pic.twitter.com/Lm1jarfBZf
