IPL 2023: CSK CEO reveals key reason behind the release of Dwayne Bravo, Chris Jordan and Adam Milne

The platform for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 auction has been laid, with the franchises sharing the list of players they have retained ahead of the 16th season of the cash-rich tournament. Four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who had a forgettable season earlier this year, have decided to part ways with some of their overseas players.

Dwayne Bravo, 39, CSK’s charismatic all-rounder has not been retained by the Super Kings. In Bravo’s case, current age and the diminishing performances have brought his long and eventful association with CSK to an end.

“In Bravo’s case, age was definitely a factor,” CSK CEO K.S. Viswanathan told Sportstar.

Speaking about Chris Jordan, who took crucial wickets for England in the knockout games of the recently concluded T20 World Cup, Viswanathan said, “Our experience has shown that Jordan has not done well in the Indian conditions during the IPL.”

New Zealand pacer Adam Milne, another player released, has speed but Viswanathan said, “He is prone to injuries.”

In IPL 2022, CSK could win only four matches out of 14 and finished ninth in the points table. They tried out Ravindra Jadeja as their new captain, but the experiment failed. MS Dhoni took over the captaincy duties from Jadeja after a couple of games. Still, the team could not qualify for the playoffs.

After releasing Bravo, Jordan and Milne, CSK have INR 20.45 crore remaining in their purse so they may look to add some talented youngsters in their squad at the upcoming IPL 2023 auction. Many fans and experts want the yellow brigade to re-sign England all-rounder Sam Curran, who was named the ‘Player of the Tournament’ at the 2022 T20 World Cup and missed the previous season of IPL due to injury.

Current squad of CSK:

MS Dhoni (c), Moeen Ali, Deepak Chahar, Mukesh Chowdhary, Devon Conway, Tushar Deshpande, Shivam Dube, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Ravindra Jadeja, Matheesha Pathirana, Dwaine Pretorius, Ambati Rayudu, Mitchell Santner, Subhranshu Senapati, Simarjeet Singh, Prashant Solanki, Maheesh Theekshana.
