Ravichandran Ashwin reacts to the viral going video of his sniffing act at T20 World Cup 2022

Ravichandran Ashwin smelling the team jersey

India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin found himself in an awkward situation after his act of smelling the team’s jerseys to find out his own was caught by the cameraman. This all happened during the toss of the T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 match between India and Zimbabwe at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, November 6.

Batting first, India posted 186 runs on the board for the loss of 5 wickets. KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav scored half-centuries and took their team out of trouble after the early blows of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Defending the set total, India bundled out Zimbabwe on just 115 in 17.2 overs. Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Hardik Pandya and Mohammad Shami claimed two scalps apiece.

Ashwin’s viral video triggers a laugh riot

In the video shared by a fan on social media, Team India captain Rohit Sharma was seen speaking to Ian Bishop during the toss. In the meantime, Ashwin tried to collect his jersey from the field. After looking at two similar jerseys, he sniffed both and soon recognized his own. He collected his jersey, threw the other down and moved back to the dugout.

This incident led former Indian cricketers Harbhajan Singh and Abhinav Mukund to tease Ashwin on Twitter.

“Ash what are u smelling @ashwinravi99”, wrote Harbhajan.

While Mukund tweeted: “Watched this video multiple times already. Just cracks me up again and again. @ashwinravi99 pls enlighten us with your logic of picking the right sweater.”

Replying to Mukund’s tweet, Ashwin wrote: “Checked for the sizes to differentiate! Checked if it was initialed. Finally checked for the perfume i use.”

After leading the points table of Group 2 in the Super 12 stage, India will now lock horns with England in the second semifinal at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday, November 10.
