Australia coach Andrew McDonald has given an update regarding the availability of Cameron Green for the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023. The 23-year-old had broken his finger during Australia’s Boxing Day Test against South Africa but continued to bat under tremendous pain. He faced 177 deliveries in Australia’s first innings, scoring an unbeaten 51.
Giving an update on Green’s injury, McDonald said he is confident that the young all-rounder would not miss the first match of the upcoming Test series against India.
“I am confident that he will be fit in the time frame that has been given. The challenge will be to make sure that we can be creative in the way that he trains and make sure that his body is in order to mitigate if something else goes wrong, which can always happen when you’re coming back from an injury,” said McDonald as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
McDonald also praised the Aussie medical team for their excellent efforts and further added: “The medical team has done an outstanding job. We’re confident and feel that he will be ready for that first Test match against India. The risk was not there to lengthen the injury and that’s why he batted in that first innings. So the time frame remains the same as the initial prognosis for his return from injury. He’ll be fit and available for that first Test match.”
The four-match Test series is set to commence on February 9 and will go on until March 13.
Australia haven’t won a Test series in India since 2004.
