The Durban Super Giants and MI Cape Town locked horns in the Match no. 5 of SA20 at the Newlands in Capetown on Friday, January 13.
Put in to bat first, Rashid Khan-led MI Capetown failed to start well and lost their star opener Dewald Brevis for a duck. However, Grant Roelofson 52 (43) and George Linde 33 (25) batted efficiently to power their team to a fighting total of 152 for the loss of 8 wickets.
For the Giants, every bowler to have bowled bagged a wicket or two except Keshav Maharaj, the 32-year-old spinner went wicketless.
The important wicket of Brevis was taken by Kyle Mayer, who bowled a fierce swinging yorker to dismiss the opener in the first over of the match. The 19-year-old seemed surprised by the absolute ripper of delivery and took a moment to walk back to the pavilion.

Notably, in the inaugural game of the SA20 against Paarl Royals, Brevis scored an unbeaten 70 off 41 deliveries.
In the second innings, Quinton de Kock-led Durban Super Giants easily chased the set target in 16.3 overs. Mayers 34 (23) and Heinrich Klaasen 36 (22) shined for the Giants in their five wickets victory.
Wiaan Mulder and Keemo Paul also scored 30 and 20 runs.
For his all-round performance, Mayers was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’. The 30-year-old hails from West Indies and has represented his country in 21 T20Is, 17 ODIs and 14 Tests.
After the match Mayers spoke about his performance and dismissing Brevis “It’s a good feeling, getting the team cross the line. (On dismissing Brevis) It’s something I practise. I always want to execute the inswinging yorker upfront, my team always back me to get the wicket in the first over. It feels good. I have a bit of skills, try to show every now and then,” said Brevis.
Both MI Cape Town and Durban Super Giants have till now played two matches in the league and have won one game each.
In the points table, MICT is placed at 2nd position while DSG is at 4th.
