India registered a thumping win over Australia in Nagpur on Saturday, wrapping up the first Test of the four-match series in only two and a half days. With this win, India took an early 1-0 lead in the series while increasing their chances of reaching the final of the 2021-23 World Test Championship (WTC).
After bowling out Australia for 177 in the first innings, India posted a huge total of 400 on the board with captain Rohit Sharma (120) leading from the front, while all-rounder Axar Patel smashed his career-best 84 and Ravindra Jadeja made 70 in his comeback game. Jadeja also picked a fifer (5/47) in Australia’s first innings.
For the tourists, debutant Todd Murphy shined with the ball and finished with figures of 7/124. The Australian batters again crumbled in the second innings, this time on just 91, as off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin ran riot with his 31st five-wicket haul in Test cricket, while Jadeja and Mohammed Shami bagged two wickets each.
Meanwhile, a video from the match is going viral on social media. In the short clip, Jadeja and Virat Kohli, who grabbed a sharp catch to dismiss Usman Khawaja in Australia’s second essay, were seen attempting the ‘Jhoome jo Pathaan’ dance step from Shah Rukh Khan starrer Bollywood blockbuster Pathaan.
It all happened when the home team was preparing to enter the field after their batting. The Sharma-led side was waiting near the boundary rope to get a pep talk from their skipper. As Jadeja and Kohli waited for the rest of the pack to join the huddle, they started trying the hook step.
