IPL 2023 [WATCH]: MS Dhoni’s humble gesture towards fans during practice session wins hearts

MS Dhoni during CSK's practice session

Former India great and Chennai Super Kings‘ (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni is all set to lead his team in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and was spotted practising at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium ahead of the marquee tournament. The India legend will return to action on March 31 when CSK faces defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in the opening game of the IPL 2023.

The Chennai-based franchise didn’t have a great outing in the last season as they finished ninth in the points table and managed to win just four of the 14 league stage matches. This came after Dhoni stepped down from the skipper’s post and Ravindra Jadeja was announced as CSK’s new captain. However, the veteran wicketkeeper-batter was once again handed the captaincy reins mid-season after the team’s poor run under Jadeja’s leadership.

Aiming for a better comeback in IPL 2023, CSK have started their training for the upcoming event in a full fledge at their home ground. During the practice session at Chepauk, the team even received an enthusiastic welcome from the fans. A video of the same has also gone viral on the internet, where the fans are seen cheering for Dhoni as he prepares to enter the field, and the 41-year-old Ranchi cricketer, in response, shows gratitude to the supporters by folding his hands. The humble gesture by Dhoni towards his fans was lauded by many on social media.

Here’s the video:

It would be after a gap of three years that the Chennai crowd will be able to witness CSK’s IPL matches. Notably, in the last few years, IPL was restricted only to a few certain venues as a precautionary measure considering the pandemic. The first game the Chennai-based franchise will play at Chepauk is against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 3.
