WPL 2023 [WATCH]: Harmanpreet Kaur survives as bails don’t come off after Anjali Sarvani’s delivery hit stumps

UP Warriorz (UPW) faced Mumbai Indians (MI) in match no. 10 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday (March 12) and lost the contest by eight wickets.

Electing to bat first, UPW posted a challenging total of 159/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Alyssa Healy top-scored for the team with 58 runs off 46 balls, while Tahlia McGrath also contributed with a quickfire 50 off just 37 deliveries. Saika Ishaque was the pick of the bowlers for Mumbai- based team, claiming three wickets for 33 runs, while Amelia Kerr also chipped in with two wickets.

Chasing a target of 160, MI got off to a flying start with Harmanpreet Kaur smashing 53 runs off just 33 balls, including nine fours and a six. Nat Sciver-Brunt also played a crucial knock of 45 runs off 31 deliveries. During the MI’s inning, a bizarre incident took place where Harmanpreet survived by the barest of margin as the ball hit the stumps, but the bails didn’t fall.

On the third ball of the 10th over, the MI skipper attempted a flick off Anjali Sarvani‘s delivery but missed it completely. Eventually, the ball touching the leg stump went to the keeper. However, luckily Harmanpreet was saved as the bails didn’t come off. Meanwhile, Healy was left disheartened along with the other teammates. Notably, Harmanpreet was just on 7 at the time.

Talking about the result of the match, MI reached the target in 17.3 overs, finishing at 164/2. Sophie Ecclestone and Rajeshwari Gayakwad claimed a wicket each for UPW, but it was not enough to stop Mumbai from winning the match by eight wickets. Harmanpreet was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for her exceptional knock. With this win, MI have now moved to the top of the WPL 2023 points table, while UP sits at the third spot in the team standings.
