IPL 2023: Virender Sehwag lashes out at Rajasthan Royals batter Riyan Parag for his consistent failures

Riyan Parag, Virender Sehwag

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has expressed his disappointment with Rajasthan Royals (RR) player Riyan Parag’s poor form in the current edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He added that his repeated failures could lead to other players on the bench questioning why they aren’t being given a chance to showcase their skills. While RR has performed well this season, Parag’s inability to score runs has become a cause of concern for the team.

The Royals have been enjoying a good run in the tournament, winning four out of five matches, and are currently at the top of the points table. However, the team’s management must be worried about Parag’s lack of form. The middle-order batsman has been struggling to put runs on the board and has failed to make a significant impact in the last couple of seasons.

In IPL 2023, Parag has scored only 39 runs at a poor strike rate of 108.33. With several talented players waiting on the bench, the team management may consider dropping him if he doesn’t improve his performance. Parag’s poor form is a worry for the team, and they may look at other options to strengthen their batting.

Sehwag feels that if Parag continues to underperform, he should be made to sit out. The former opener also thinks that the team management may already be contemplating replacing him. With many skilled players on the bench, RR may choose to give someone else a chance if Parag fails to improve his batting.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Viru said: “It is right for the players who are sitting outside to think ‘What wrong have we done to not get these many chances.’ Even Rajasthan management must be thinking about how long they should back Riyan Parag. If he wants to play for India then this is the platform where he has to deliver, or else he deserves to sit on the bench.”
