IPL 2023 [WATCH]: Nehal Wadhera hits the bull’s eye to dismiss Kuldeep Yadav in DC vs MI clash

Nehal Wadhera's direct hit during match against DC

The 16th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 witnessed yet another last-ball thriller, with Mumbai Indians (MI) emerging victorious in the intense match against Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets. MI’s skipper Rohit Sharma was the standout performer for his team as he scored an impressive half-century in the clash. However, a brilliant run-out from Nehal Wadhera also played a role in MI’s win off the final delivery.

Electing to bowl first, Mumbai put up a great show with the ball and bowled out DC for 172 in 19.4 overs. Axar Patel contributed a quickfire 54 off just 25 deliveries to the Delhi-based team’s total and was well supported by his skipper David Warner who scored a fifty as well. Meanwhile, Piyush Chawla and Jason Behrendorff picked up three wickets each for MI. Among the ten wickets that fell during DC’s innings, one was due to the brilliant fielding effort from MI’s Nehal Wadhera.

On the fourth ball of the 19th over, Behrendorff went for a straighter delivery to Kuldeep Yadav, which the latter pushed for a single towards mid-on. But the DC batter fell victim to Wadhera’s brilliant fielding effort, who ran down from mid-wicket and struck a direct hit to send Kuldeep back to the pavilion. The commitment by the 22-year-old was well appreciated by his captain Rohit who seemed thrilled after the wicket.

Here’s the video:

The run out from Wadhera played a crucial role in the MI’s run chase as the Mumbai-based franchise pulled off a last-ball win in the contest and scored 173 for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Had that not been direct-hit from Wadhera, Mumbai would have fallen one run short in the second innings.

Rohit played a significant role for MI in chasing down the set target and was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his sensational 65 off 45 deliveries.
