The 42nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) saw Mumbai Indians (MI) take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday (April 30). The match turned out to be yet another thriller and went down to the final over of the game, with MI emerging victorious by six wickets in the end.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, RR posted a mammoth 212-run total for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal single-handedly led the Rajasthan-based team’s batting in the clash as he slammed a brilliant ton for his side. Yashasvi scored storming 124 off just 62 deliveries, including sixteen fours and eight sixes. He also became the fourth youngest player to hit a hundred in IPL history. Meanwhile, Arshad Khan picked up three wickets for Mumbai.

In reply, MI didn’t start well and lost their skipper Rohit Sharma in the second over of the innings with just 14 runs on the board. Although Suryakumar Yadav smashed a brilliant 55 runs off 29 balls, he failed to finish things off, and the game went down to the final over. With 17 needed off the last over, Tim David kept his cool and hammered Jason Holder for three consecutive sixes, finishing the match in MI’s favour. David’s fiery 45 runs off just 14 deliveries helped Mumbai win the game by six wickets and three balls to spare.

After the match, David was not only lauded by the fans on social media, but people from the cricket fraternity also heaped praises on the 27-year-old Australian cricketer for holding his nerve in the crunch moment. While India’s veteran opener Virender Sehwag termed David’s inning a perfect birthday gift to Rohit, former MI spinner Harbhajan Singh termed him ‘Best in the business.’

Here’s how the cricket world reacted to Tim David’s batting against RR:
