Following the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 final, former West Indies cricketers Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard engaged in light-hearted banter during a car ride. Notably, both Bravo and Pollard, who attained huge success as players for their respective franchises – Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) – were in the coaching staff in the 16th season of the cash-rich league. While Bravo was the bowling coach of CSK, Pollard served as the batting coach for Mumbai.
Bravo’s side CSK ended up claiming their fifth IPL title after defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final and equaled Mumbai’s tally of 5 IPL trophies. Bravo’s impact as the coach of a relatively inexperienced bowling unit did wonders for the Super Kings and produced from the likes of Matheesha Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande.
Meanwhile, both the Windies superstars were spotted having a go at each other in a light hearted banter. In a video which is getting viral on the internet, Bravo can be seen expressing his opinion on why he considered CSK to be the most accomplished franchise in IPL history. It started after Polly asked Bravo how it felt to have 5 titles in the IPL, flaunting that he has been having the feeling for 3 years.
In response to Pollard, Bravo said: “It’s a great feeling to be 5 time champions. It’s also a better feeling to be the most successful IPL franchise team in the history.”
Pollard then quickly asked how come CSK is the most successful franchise as they (MI and CSK) are now same in terms of IPL titles. Bravo, however, backed his claim with by citing two Champions League titles that CSK won in 2010 and 2014.
Bravo further reinforced his point by mentioning his impressive record of winning 17 titles in T20 tournaments worldwide, surpassing Pollard’s count by two. In response, the seasoned player from MI playfully taunted Bravo, highlighting his extensive cricketing career since the early 2000s and his experience of sharing the change room with renowned figures like Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh.
Bravo inquired, “When it comes to franchise cricket, I have secured a remarkable 17 trophies. How many have you accumulated?” Pollard responded by stating that he hadn’t kept track of his trophy count. Bravo then proceeded to inform him that his former teammate had a total of 15 trophies, while proudly mentioning that he had added a coaching trophy to his collection as well. “Kindly give me the respect I deserve,” Bravo added.
