Before gaining recognition for his astute cricketing intellect, which significantly contributed to India clinching three major ICC titles within six years, MS Dhoni made a name for himself as a powerful top-order batter.
As his cricket journey advanced, the 42-year-old transitioned to the middle order, ultimately evolving into one of the premier finishers in limited-overs cricket, becoming the only captain to win all three major international trophies (2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, 2013 Champions Trophy).
Recently, former cricketer Gautam Gambhir shared his thoughts on Dhoni, praising him for his unwavering contribution to Indian cricket. The left-hander also mentioned that Dhoni sacrificed his batting position for the team to win more and more matches, and if he had continued to bat in the top order, the Ranchi-born cricketer would have shattered many records.

After Gambhir’s praiseworthy remarks on Dhoni, former Indian pacer S. Sreesanth replied to the Delhi-born on the former’s opinion.
‘For Dhoni it was always about more victories than more runs’: Sreesanth
Sreesanth believed that MS Dhoni maintained a persistent and unwavering dedication to eliciting peak performance from every team member. To uphold this commitment, the former Indian skipper would strategically modify his batting order to harmonize with the team’s specific demands and prerequisites. Furthermore, the 40-year-old admired Dhoni’s exceptional proficiency in closing out games during critical moments for his team.
“Gautam Bhai said recently that Dhoni would have scored more runs had he batted at No.3. But for Dhoni it was always about more victories than more runs. He always had the ability to finish games when the team needed him and he won two World Cups as well. Credit should go to Dhoni, but he didn’t sacrifice his batting position. He worked a way to find out which players would do well for the team in which position and then slot them in those positions accordingly. His captaincy had the ability to bring the best out of his players. He has always thought about the team first,” Sreesanth said, as quoted by Sportskeeda.
