As the cricketing world eagerly awaits the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 players’ auction, teams have started shaping their rosters to assemble powerhouse squads. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise, fresh off a remarkable performance in IPL 2023, are set to make calculated moves as they prepare for the upcoming player auction.
Successful campaign in IPL 2023
LSG clinched the third spot on the IPL 2023 points table, capping off an impressive campaign. They have already made significant changes to their squad, trading Romario Shepherd to Mumbai Indians and acquiring Devdutt Padikkal from Rajasthan Royals in exchange for fast bowler Avesh Khan.
In the lead-up to the IPL 2024 player auction, LSG are expected to make further adjustments by releasing certain players. Let’s have a look at four players who might find themselves on the release list.

Four players that LSG might release
1. Naveen-ul-Haq
Afghanistan fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq had a decent but unspectacular performance in the IPL 2023, playing 8 games and securing 11 wickets at an economy rate of 7.82. With his recent retirement from ODI cricket, LSG might opt to release Naveen, intending to reacquire him at a more favorable price during the auction.
2. Krishnappa Gowtham
Krishnappa Gowtham had a lackluster IPL 2023, contributing only 3 wickets in 7 games and scoring a meager 61 runs. Considering his underwhelming performance relative to his INR 90 lakh price tag, LSG might choose to release Gowtham in anticipation of the upcoming auctions.
3. Amit Mishra
The seasoned campaigner Amit Mishra, known for his exceptional spin bowling, may face the chopping block due to concerns about his fitness and age. The emergence of younger spinners could overshadow Mishra’s experience, potentially signaling the end of his illustrious IPL journey. In IPL 2023, Mishra claimed 7 wickets in 7 games, with a best performance of 2/21.
4. Jaydev Unadkat
Senior pacer Jaydev Unadkat had a challenging IPL 2023, playing only three games and failing to secure a single wicket. With an economy of 11.50, Unadkat’s below-par performance might lead to his release by LSG ahead of the IPL 2024 auctions. However, considering his experience, the franchise may seek to reacquire him at a reduced price.
