In a moment that captured the hearts of spectators at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)’s captain Pat Cummins executed a stunning direct-hit to run out Krunal Pandya of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The incident, occurring during the 57th match of IPL 2024, left SRH CEO Kavya Maran over the moon.
Pat Cummins sends Krunal Pandya packing
The crucial play unfolded in the second ball of the 11th over, bowled by T Natarajan. Krunal Pandya, attempting to accelerate the scoring, pushed a full delivery towards mid-off and dashed for a risky single. Pat Cummins, known for his sharp fielding skills, quickly gathered the ball and unleashed a precise throw straight at the stumps. His accuracy paid off as the ball hit the target, dismissing Pandya who was well short of his crease. Pandya’s dismissal for 24 runs off 21 balls, which included two sixes, was a significant blow for LSG as it sent back both set batters within just eight balls.

In the match, Lucknow posted a challenging total of 165-4 in their 20 overs, thanks to significant contributions from Nicholas Pooran, who remained unbeaten at 48 runs off 26 balls, and Ayush Badoni, who scored a brisk 55* off 30 balls. Despite his expensive bowling figures of 1/47, Cummins’ fielding brilliance was a highlight, complemented by Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s economical 2/14, which helped keep the match competitive.
