Rishabh Pant, Pravin Amre and Shardul Thakur face action for breaching IPL Code of Conduct in DC vs RR clash

Rishabh Pant, Shardul Thakur face action for breaching IPL code of conduct

Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant has been fined 100 per cent of his match fee after he was found guilty of breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct during DC’s game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday.

According to IPL’s official release, Pant admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.7 of the Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction.

Similarly, Pant’s teammate and all-rounder Shardul Thakur has been fined 50 per cent of his match fee for the same offence. Thakur also admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction.

Further, Pravin Amre, the assistant coach of DC, has been fined 100 per cent of his match fee and a one-match ban for breaching the Code of Conduct. Amre admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction.

Notably, in the final over of the match, DC needed 36 runs to win the contest. On the third delivery of the over, Rajasthan pacer Obed McCoy bowled a waist-high full-toss, and Rovman Powell dispatched it for a six. DC camp expected it to be a no-ball, but the on-field umpires did not ask for the third umpire’s help and ruled the ball as a legal delivery.

The DC players were clearly upset as they started gesturing from the dugout. Pant was seen signalling towards the two batters – Powell and Kuldeep Yadav – to come off the field. Then, Amre stepped onto the field to talk to the on-field umpires.

After all the controversy, eventually, things calmed down, and the Royals ended up winning the contest by 15 runs to go to the top of the points table.
