From Suresh Raina to Dinesh Karthik: Cricket fraternity extend wishes to Sunil Gavaskar on his 74th birthday

Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar is celebrating his 73rd birthday today (July 10). The cricket fraternity, including former and current players, extended their best wishes to Gavaskar.

Notably, the former Indian captain was the first batsman to cross the 10,000-run milestone in Test cricket. He was a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team. The right-handed batter played 125 Tests and 108 ODIs in which he scored 10,122 runs and 3092 runs.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) led the birthday wishes with a collage of Gavaskar alongwith the batting records he made in his glorious career.

Former India batter Suresh Raina took to his official Twitter handle and wished Gavaskar stating that the Mumbaikar defined cricket.

“A very happy birthday to the man who defines cricket @Sunil_Gavaskar, I hope this day brings you loads of joy, happiness and good health. Have a wonderful day bhai #HappyBirthdaySunilGavaskar,” wrote Raina.

Senior Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik shared a lovely picture with the legend and reckoned Gavaskar inspired millions to take up this fascinating sport.

“The man who inspired millions to take up cricket. Wishing Sunil Gavaskar Sir a very happy 73rd birthday,” tweeted Karthik.

Recently-retired India Women star Mithali Raj took to Twitter and wrote: “His concentration skills and his impeccable technique were second to none. His brilliant commentary still amazes me. One of the greatest batters to play for India, Sunil Gavaskar sir is an inspiration. Happy Birthday!”

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer wrote: “Happy Birthday to the man who taught us what matters isn’t the size of the man in the fight, but the size of the fight in the man. Have a great day Sunny bhai”
