ZIM vs IND: Team India to tour Zimbabwe for ODI series in August

India to tour Zimbabwe for ODI series

After the tour of the West Indies, Team India will travel to the African nation of Zimbabwe for the One-Day International (ODI) series, starting in August.

The fixtures haven’t been announced officially, but according to Cricbuzz, the three-match ODI leg, which is part of the ICC One-Day Super League, will start on August 18 in Harare.

Notably, the upcoming ODI games are quite significant for Zimbabwe as the points from the series will count towards the qualification for next year’s ODI World Cup. However, a similar case is not for visitors as Rohit Sharma’s India have directly qualified for the multi-team event next, scheduled to start in October later this year.

All three matches are set to be played at the Harare Sports Club. The Indian contingent is expected to arrive in Harare on August 15.

“We are absolutely delighted to host India, and we look forward to a competitive and memorable series,” a Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) official told Cricbuzz.

“It’s a big opportunity for the players to play against the Indian players and for the cricketing fraternity in Zimbabwe. It will create a lot of interest amongst the younger generation to take up this game. Overall, the series is very good for Zimbabwe cricket,” said Lalchand Rajput, the former coach of the side, who has now been re-designated as the Technical Director.

Notably, this is India’s first tour to Zimbabwe in six years. The last time India travelled to the African nation was under MS Dhoni in June-July 2016. The tourists had then played three ODIs and as many T20Is.

India tour of Zimbabwe schedule:

  • Second ODI: Zimbabwe v India, Saturday, August 20, Harare Sports Club, Harare
  • Third ODI: Zimbabwe v India, Monday, August 22, Harare Sports Club, Harare
