India’s comprehensive victory over Australia in the second Test of the four-match series has ended South Africa’s hopes of reaching this year’s ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final.
The six-wicket win in Delhi took India’s win-percentage to 64.06, but their place in June’s summit clash at The Oval is still not sure as they can still be overtaken by Sri Lanka if the results of upcoming games go against them.
Therefore, the race for the WTC final is now among the top three sides – Australia, India and Sri Lanka.
The highest winning percentage South Africa can claim is 55 percent, which is less than the lowest amount that India can finish on.
Though Australia are comfortably placed at the top in WTC standings with win percentage of 66.67, they are not locked in to play the final either.
The Pat Cummins-led side has to avoid a 4-0 series sweep against India or hope that Sri Lanka fail to whitewash New Zealand (2-0) in their upcoming Test series.
