IPL 2023: Sourav Ganguly engages in a handshake with Virat Kohli and pats his shoulder after DC vs RCB clash

Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 witnessed many controversial incidents in the past few days and was in the news headlines for the wrong reasons only. However, the 50th match of the league between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday (May 6) saw a pleasantly surprising event take place, where DC Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly and RCB batter Virat Kohli engaged in a friendly handshake keeping aside their past differences.

It all happened after the match ended, and the players of the two teams were having a formal handshake. Dada not only shook hands with Kohli but also gave a pat on his shoulder in a sporting gesture. The clip of the same went viral on the internet, and cricket enthusiasts lauded Dada for his humble behaviour. Notably, this came after both Ganguly and Kohli avoided each other in the previous encounter of IPL 2023 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, which sparked a massive controversy.

Speaking of the dispute between the two Indian legends, the differences are said to have erupted when Ganguly was the president of the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) and Kohli stepped down from the T20I captaincy. The conflict only rose with time as the RCB batter later also resigned from the Indian skipper’s post in One Day International (ODI) and Test format. But now, the friendly handshake suggests they have moved on from the past rift and don’t hold any other grudges.

As far as the result of the DC-RCB match is concerned, Delhi won the clash by seven wickets. Although Kohli (55) and Mahipal Lomror (54) hammered brilliant fifties for their team in the contest, the Delhi-based team chased the target set by RCB with ease. Phil Salt shined for DC in their victory with sensational 87 off 45 balls and was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his quickfire knock.
