Meg Lanning, bowlers guide Delhi Capitals to convincing win over Gujarat Giants

In an exciting encounter at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Gujarat Giants Women clashed against the Delhi Capitals Women in the 10th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024. The Capitals dominated the contest and won the match by 25 runs.

The toss favored the Gujarat Giants Women, who elected to bowl first. Delhi Capitals Women put up a competitive total of 163/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Meg Lanning led the charge with a brilliant knock of 55 runs off 41 balls. Lanning displayed remarkable composure at the crease, anchoring the innings with her elegant stroke play. Her masterful innings provided the backbone of Delhi’s formidable total, leaving the Gujarat bowlers struggling to contain her.

Lanning was well supported by valuable contributions from Alice Capsey (27 runs off 17 balls) and Annabel Sutherland (20 runs off 12 balls). Meghna Singh was the standout bowler for Gujarat Giants Women, claiming an impressive 4 wickets for 37 runs in her 4 overs.

In response, Gujarat Giants Women fought hard but fell short, managing 138/8 in their 20 overs. Ashleigh Gardner was the top scorer with a gritty innings of 40 runs off 31 balls, but it wasn’t enough to secure victory for her team. Jess Jonassen starred with the ball for Delhi Capitals Women, picking up 3 wickets for 22 runs in her 4 overs. Apart from Jonassen, Radha Yadav, too, sizzled with the ball as she took three scalps for 20 runs.
