Phil Salt

During the first ODI of a five-match series between England and Australia, the English opener Phil Salt was left stunned after losing his wicket to the Aussie debutant Ben Dwarshuis. The incident took place on Thursday (September 19) at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, where both teams were eager to establish dominance in the series.

The moment of shock for Phil Salt

Salt, known for his aggressive batting style, was looking to build a solid foundation for England after they won the toss and opted to bat first. However, in a moment that left fans and players alike in disbelief, Salt misjudged a delivery from Dwarshuis, leading to his dismissal. The left-arm seamer, making his international debut at the age of 30, delivered a well-placed delivery in the 8th over of the first innings that caught Salt off guard, resulting in a clean bowled dismissal.

Australia takes 1-0 lead

Australia secured a convincing 7-wicket victory over England in a high-scoring encounter, chasing down a target of 316 in just 44 overs. Led by a magnificent unbeaten 154 from Travis Head and a solid 77* by Marnus Labuschagne, Australia overpowered the English bowling attack to win comfortably.

Matthew Potts, Jacob Bella and Liam Livingstone picked up a wicket each for England.

Earlier, England posted a competitive total of 315 all out in 49.4 overs. Ben Duckett top-scored with 95 (91), while Will Jacks contributed 62 runs. Australia’s bowlers kept the pressure on, with Labuschagne and Adam Zampa both taking 3 wickets, finishing with figures of 3-39 and 3-49, respectively.

“We did everything we wanted to do. We scored quickly and tried to take wickets, but not our day today. We were eyeing a big score, but it was difficult against the spinners,” said the losing captain Harry Brook in the post-match presentation.

“We didn’t rotate strike as well and ended up getting a below par score,” he added.
